In a solemn and joyful ceremony held at St. Peter's Cathedral, Siakago, the Venerable Dr. John Kimani Nthigah was consecrated as Assistant Bishop of the ACK Diocese of Mbeere on Sunday, 12th May 2024.
The service was presided over by the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Prof. Moses Masamba Nthukah, joined by bishops from across the Anglican Church of Kenya and a large gathering of clergy and faithful from the diocese's 6 archdeaconries.
A New Season of Leadership
Bishop Nthigah brings to the role a reputation as a committed and visionary leader within the Anglican Church. His consecration marks a strengthening of the diocesan leadership as the Diocese of Mbeere continues to pursue its vision of wholistic transformation across Embu County.
Rt. Rev. Prof. Nthukah, welcoming his new colleague in ministry, expressed confidence that the addition of an assistant bishop would deepen the pastoral reach of the diocese — particularly in the more remote parishes of Mbeere North and Mbeere South.
Words from the New Bishop
In his address to the faithful following his consecration, Bishop Nthigah called on the clergy and lay leaders of the Diocese to embrace a spirit of service, unity, and evangelism.
"We are called not merely to maintain the Church but to grow it — to go where people are, to serve where need is greatest, and to proclaim the Gospel with boldness and love," he said.
Supporting the Diocese's Mission
Bishop Nthigah will work alongside Rt. Rev. Prof. Nthukah in the pastoral oversight of the Diocese's 72 parishes across 6 archdeaconries. His role includes supporting the Bishop in confirmations, ordinations, parish visitations, and the wider governance of the Diocese.
The Diocese of Mbeere, established on 1st July 1997, is served by the Anglican Church of Kenya under the provincial leadership of Archbishop The Most Rev. Dr. Jackson Ole Sapit.
