Karaba Parish Church Construction

New permanent stone church building for St. John's Parish, Karaba — replacing a deteriorating timber structure that has served the congregation since the 1970s.

← Back to Projects

About the Project

St. John's Anglican Church, Karaba, has served its congregation faithfully for over five decades. The original timber-and-iron-sheet structure, erected in the 1970s, has deteriorated significantly and no longer provides a safe or dignified space for worship. The roof leaks during heavy rains, the floor is uneven, and the building cannot accommodate the growing congregation.

The Diocese approved the construction of a new permanent stone church building that will serve the Karaba community for generations to come.

Building Specifications

The new church will feature:

  • Permanent stone and concrete construction
  • Seating capacity for 500 worshippers
  • A raised chancel with altar rails and choir stalls
  • Vestry rooms for the clergy and choir
  • Accessible entrances and paving
  • Stained glass feature windows at the east end

Progress

Construction began in 2024. As of 2026, the project is approximately 60% complete. The walls and roof structure are in place; work is ongoing on internal finishing, windows, flooring, and the installation of pews.
