Macumo Centre Vocational Workshop Expansion
Extension of the Macumo Development Integrated Centre to add carpentry and welding workshops, increasing training capacity from 40 to 120 trainees per cycle.
About the Project
The Macumo Development Integrated Centre (MDIC) is a diocesan-run vocational training institution that equips young people from Mbeere with practical skills for economic self-reliance. The Centre has operated for many years, but its existing facilities have limited total training capacity to 40 trainees per cycle — leaving many applicants unable to enrol.
The current expansion project adds dedicated workshops for carpentry and welding, three of the most in-demand trades in the region.
What is Being Added
Carpentry Workshop A purpose-built carpentry workshop equipped with hand tools, bench saws, and woodworking machinery. Trainees will learn furniture making, timber construction joinery, and cabinet work.
Welding Workshop A welding workshop with arc and MIG welding bays, angle grinders, and metal fabrication benches. Trainees will learn structural welding, metal fabrication, and equipment repair.
Expanded Common Areas Additional classroom space for theory lessons, a resource library, and improved sanitation facilities to support the increased trainee population.

Skills for Self-Reliance
The Diocese believes that equipping young people with marketable skills is a direct expression of the Gospel call to serve. Graduates of MDIC have gone on to establish their own businesses, find employment, and support their families — breaking cycles of dependency and transforming communities.
