Mbeere North Primary School Library Programme
Establishment of well-stocked reading libraries in 5 ACK-sponsored primary schools in Mbeere North, paired with a reading promotion programme for pupils.
About the Project
Reading fluency is foundational to all learning. In Mbeere North, many primary school pupils progress through school without access to books beyond their prescribed textbooks. ACK-sponsored primary schools in the region lack dedicated library spaces or reading materials beyond the minimum government provision.
The Mbeere North Primary School Library Programme will establish functioning school libraries in 5 ACK-sponsored primary schools, stocking them with age-appropriate books in English and Kiswahili across fiction, non-fiction, and reference categories.
What the Programme Includes
Physical Library Spaces Conversion or construction of a dedicated reading room in each of the 5 schools, furnished with bookshelves, reading tables, and chairs.
Book Collections Each library will be stocked with a minimum of 500 books, selected for age-appropriateness and curriculum relevance, including storybooks, science books, atlases, and reference dictionaries.
Reading Promotion A structured reading promotion programme will be introduced in each school, including reading hours, reading competitions, and parent involvement initiatives to extend the reading habit into the home.
Trained Teacher-Librarians One teacher per school will receive training in basic library management, cataloguing, and running a school reading programme.
